Painting and Decorating

Information for Schools

The course will take a holistic approach and will focus on interpersonal skills: ie verbal and non-verbal communication skills, confidence building and raising self-esteem. Employability is a key element within our training programmes and is integrated throughout.  

The Painting and Decorating programme will initially be carried out in house, however once staff and the learner feel they are ready and would benefit from an external placement, this is organised.  

Activities include:  

  • Use of tools and equipment  
  • Surface preparation  
  • Painting including undercoat, gloss and emulsion  
  • Specialist paint effects  
  • Wallpapering  
  • General building knowledge such as basic construction industry  
  • Health and safety


  • Painting and Decorating work experience  
  • Taster opportunites available  
  • City and Guilds Level 1 certificate in Basic Construction Skills


  • Excluded young people
  • Learner at risk of exclusion
  • Learners with disabilities
  • Poor attendees
  • Pregnant teenagers/Young parents
  • Young offenders

Other Details


£50 per day plus registration and certification costs per learner. It is expected that any travel costs from the learners home to Palmersville Training would be met by the Council
