1 February 2022: Update from Daley Barber-Allen, Headteacher Thomas Bewick School

COVID UPDATE from Daley 1 February 2022

Dear parents and carers

As promised, we have kept our current outbreak management and safety plan under constant daily review. From today (Tuesday 1st February), I am pleased that we will be able to fully reopen all classes at our Broadwood site and at Site 2, now that the staffing situation has stabilised somewhat at these two sites.

We still have a very high number of positive cases and staff absences to manage, mainly at Site 1, so we are keeping our blended learning arrangements in place for the majority of pupils in classes at Site 1 (Classes 1 to 17) for the time being. We are keeping a very close eye on the situation and as soon as it is safe and possible to do so, we will fully reopen classes at Site 1.

On behalf of everyone at Thomas Bewick School, once again I would like to thank our parent and carer community, our colleagues from health and social care, the SEN transport team, our transport providers and our local authority colleagues for your flexibility and support during a very challenging time for our school.

Thanks also to my incredible team of staff who are working really hard to manage the situation on the ground and of course, thank you to our wonderful pupils who continue to inspire us every day, all whilst having to cope with lots of change and disruption to the school routine. You are all amazing!

We will keep you updated as the situation progresses, but for any specific enquiries or if you have any questions about your own child, please contact the school directly by phone or email.
In the meantime, if your child is unwell or experiencing any Covid symptoms, please help us to reduce the risk of transmission in school by keeping your child at home and arranging a Covid test if you can.

Dear parents and carers

I just wanted to thank you once again for your patience and understanding as we try to manage the very difficult situation at Thomas Bewick School. Like all of you, we want all of our pupils back in school full time as quickly as possible, and so our outbreak management and safety plans are under constant review, daily and even hourly.  As staffing levels increase and stabilise, we will be able to bring more pupils back into school, so we will keep you fully and individually informed as the situation progresses.

We sincerely apologise for the disruption, inconvenience and frustration caused by this situation but the health and safety of pupils and staff is our top priority.  We are doing our very best to continue providing a high-quality education and care for all of our children and young people, despite the issues we are experiencing.

Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation, and for the kind messages we have received from many of you during this difficult and challenging time.  It means a lot.

We will be in touch with any new information or developments in due course.

Take care and stay safe.
