Kooth May Newsletter

Hi everyone, this is an extremely busy and sometimes stressful time of the year for a lot of Young People. As we head into the early stages of exam season, it is vitally important that the Young People we work with know of every resource that is available to support them.

As ever, Kooth can hopefully be part of a really supportive network to help everyone involved through this challenging time. Kooth, our free, safe and anonymous website, offering flexible and confidential support to Young People through our community spaces, self-help tools and online text-based counselling is available throughout the exam period and beyond.

Kooth can be accessed by anyone aged 11-18 across Newcastle and Gateshead, with Qwell, our adult service now also available to anyone aged 18+.

To support this slight change in provision we are giving existing Kooth users aged 18-25 the choice to either continue using Kooth or move over to our Qwell community, this will ensure there is consistency in care and ease in any transition process.

In May we are supporting Mental Health Awareness Week 9th - 15th May.

We have also developed some resources specifically related to Exam Stress which can be found and downloaded using the links below:

Young people can also speak, via text based chat, with one of our online counsellors or emotional wellbeing practitioners between 12 noon and 10pm Monday-Friday and between 6pm and 10pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Mental Health Awareness

In honour and celebration of Mental Health Awareness Week (9th-15th May), and this year's theme of loneliness, we are offering some free Zoom information sessions around how our services can help you and the people you may support.

This session is for professionals who work with young people and/or adults who want to know more about Kooth and Qwell as part of the digital mental health offer in North East and Yorkshire.

What you will learn from the session:
- how you can signpost to our self-referral services
- how each support feature on the websites work
- how adults and young people benefit from the services
- how we safeguard at risk adults and young people
- specific resources and support for loneliness (ahead of 'Loneliness Awareness Week' in June)
We will give a live demo of the websites, explore case studies of real users, and respond to any questions.
