The health visitor’s role starts during pregnancy and continues to offer support through the first few weeks after the birth, and all the way through until early childhood.


All health visitors are nurses or midwives with specialist training in family and community health. They work with parents and their families to improve health and wellbeing.

Services we provide

Why does the health visitor see you and your baby at 3-4 months?

During this appointment, we will need to:

  1. Review any previous health needs or concerns you may have
  2. Support your and your partner’s emotional health, including completing an ‘Edinburgh Postnatal depression score’
  3. Offer support and advice about baby’s development
  4. Continue baby’s 0-19 health record and assess your wellbeing, offering appropriate support and advice.
