9-12 month contact

The health visitor’s role starts during pregnancy and continues to offer support through the first few weeks after the birth and all the way through until early childhood.

All health visitors are nurses or midwives with specialist training in family and community health. They work with parents and their families to improve health and wellbeing.

The health visitors are part of a team that includes Staff Nurses and Community nursery nurses.

9 to 12 month check

Why does a member of the health visiting team see you and your baby at 9 to 12 months?:

  1. To review any previous health needs or concerns you may have
  2. To provide support with your and your partner’s emotional health
  3. To offer support and advice about baby’s development, including continued breastfeeding, introduction to weaning, dental health, safety issues, physical and emotional development, and review immunisations.
  4. To continue baby’s 0-19 health record and assess your wellbeing, offering appropriate support and advice as needed.
