Groundwork North East

Groundwork North East has been working in the heart of the North East & Cumbria for over 30 years, changing places and changing lives. We aim to create a society of vibrant, healthy and green communities that have the resources and resilience to shape their futures, where each individual reaches their full potential and communities can thrive.

We operate over three main aims: 

•  Improving People’s Prospects: Increasing confidence, skills, wellbeing and employability of those most in need.  

Including: support to overcome barriers to employment; providing family community learning and apprenticeships; youth engagement programmes. 

•  Creating Better Places: Helping people work together to make their surroundings greener, safer and healthier, and get involved in local decision making. 

 Including: working with communities creating pleasant, safe, open spaces; encouraging businesses to take an active role in green space maintenance; leading landscape partnerships and river restoration programmes to deliver positive environmental, heritage and cultural impact.

•  Promoting Greener Living and Working: Helping people / businesses understand and reduce their environmental impact, and fight climate change

 Including: leading campaigns to reduce waste / increase recycling; promoting greener living; working to help alleviate fuel poverty, offering advice, support and fitting measures that make homes warmer, greener and healthier.
