Labour and Birth

Our intrapartum team care for you during labour and birth.

Intrapartum refers to the period of time from when labour starts to the birth of your baby. It also includes the first few hours after. If you are having an planned caesarean section, this refers to the day of your surgery.

We offer three options when it comes to choosing where to give birth. At home, our midwife led Newcastle Birthing Centre or the delivery suite at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. Our maternity team can make a recommendation to help you choose where to give birth.

Here you can find lots of information on the pain relief options available to you as well as some information on the stages of labour so you can better understand what will be happening on the big day.
