Northern Learning Trust

Northern Learning Trust provides support for young people, families and adults living in Newcastle.  Our work covers Skills for Life, Skills for Work and Family Learning.

Skills for Life

We provide one to one and small group support for individuals who need to improve their reading, writing, numeracy and communication skills.
We work with

  • young people aged 11 - 16 who are not attending or who are risk of not attending mainstream education
  • Young offenders
  • Adults aged 16 +
     

Individuals are able to negotiate and plan their learning and are able to obtain national qualifications.

Skills for Work

We provide workshops and short programmes for those individuals who are aged over 16 and who are unemployed. We also offer Skills for Work for young people who are NEET or who are not attending mainstream education.
 
Programmes include areas such as:

  • CV writing
  • Completing application forms
  • Writing formal letters
  • Interview techniques
  • Confidence Building
  • Heart Start – a short workshop covering Emergency Life Saving
  • Health and Safety
     

Individuals and small groups are able to negotiate and plan the content of workshops and programmes.

Family Learning

We provide a range of Family Learning programmes all of which support parents and carers to play a significant role in their child’s development.
Time Together – a suite of 20 hour programmes held at 2 hours per week over 10 weeks.

  • Beginning Together
  • Magic Moments – OCN Level 1
  • Story Boxes – OCN Level 1
  • Being a Parent1 – a 20 hour antenatal programme for Teenage Parents
  • Being a Parent 2 – a 10 hour postnatal programme for Teenage Parents
  • Science Families – a range of workshops and programmes delivered in partnership with Newcastle City Council Family Learning and Libraries
  • Fun with Words – short workshops to support groups of parents understand how their children will learning when moving in Foundation Stage Learning

Engagement activities for Adults aged 16+ 

We currently have funding to deliver a range of engagement activities to adults from areas of deprivation in Newcastle.  These activities last for 15 hours and include the following:

  • Flower arranging
  • Silk painting
  • Heart Start
  • Health and Safety
  • Financial Literacy
  • And many others … 

We are happy to talk to groups who are interested in these activities and will try to deliver the programmes they would like to participate in.
