Northumbria Victim and Witness Service

Northumbria Victim & Witness Service is dedicated to helping people affected by crime in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.

At Northumbria Victim & Witness Service we provide victims and witnesses with support after crime, regardless of who they are and their circumstances. Our service is independent, non-judgemental and confidential and we offer free advice after crime. We provide bespoke support, personalised to the needs of each individual.

NVWS provides information, practical help, emotional support and guidance through the criminal justice system. We offer specialist services and support following domestic abuse, sexual violence, hate crime and much more. We empower people to cope with the aftermath of a crime and find the strength to move forward with their lives.

We have paid, trained staff, supported by dedicated volunteers, who assist us to provide high quality support to those affected by crime. The service is funded by both the Northumbria Police & Crime Commissioner and Northumbria Police.

To ensure the right help is available to all victims and witnesses of crime, Police and Crime Commissioner Kim McGuinness part funds the Northumbria Victim and Witness Service as well as a range of specialist support services. Her priorities centre around fighting crime, preventing crime and improving lives. As part of this work, Kim is committed to ensuring victims of crime get the best possible support and that they are put at the heart of the criminal justice system.
