Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS)

The North of Tyne PALS works within all NHS services in Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland. We're here to help when you need advice, want answers to questions, want to know who to talk to or find out how to get help.

As a patient, relative or carer sometimes you may need to ask someone for on-the-spot help, advice and support. This is where the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) comes in.

We focus on improving the service to NHS patients. The service provides:

  • advice and support to patients, their families and carers
  • information on NHS services
  • help to sort out problems quickly on your behalf and listens to your concerns, suggestions or queries.

We provide confidential advice and support, helping you to sort out any concerns that you may have about any aspect of NHS care.

We act independently when handling patient and family concerns, liaising with staff, managers and where appropriate, relevant organisations, to negotiate immediate or prompt solutions. If necessary, we can also refer patients and families to specific local or national-based support agencies.
