MHM was established 30 years ago by families and carers in the North East to provide support and care for people they loved with mental health problems.
Today we have grown into a major national organisation supporting people with learning disabilities, drug and alcohol and other problems, as well as our core client group of people with mental health needs, across the UK through a range of evidence based and innovative services.
We run a free service in Newcastle to assist people who suffer from alcoholism and drug addiction. Our 24/7 helpline allows people to phone and chat with our team of addiction counsellors regarding their own sobriety or a loved one in need of help.
RISE is part of the Newcastle Gateshead CCG, NHS and DFE Mental Health in Schools programme. We work in schools and colleges and support young people with moderate mental health needs. This could mean working directly with individual students, running group sessions, or helping teachers shape lesson plans or assemblies.
At RISE, we offer low intensity support for children and young people coping with mild to moderate mental health needs. Our Education Mental Health Practitioners will tailor sessions based on young person needs but themes may include:
The Children and Young People’s Service provides a single service to all children and young people aged 0-18 years living in Newcastle and Gateshead who present with mental health difficulties.

The children’s health psychology team provide a range of services for children and young people who have psychological issues related to physical conditions, injury and illness.

The Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team is a team of experienced mental health staff, which includes nurses, social workers, psychiatrists and pharmacy staff. We offer assessment and home treatment for people over 16 experiencing a mental health crisis, as an alternative to hospital admission.
The team operates across Newcastle and Gateshead 24 hours a day 7 days a week. However, the crisis team does not provide an ’emergency’ service such as a 999 response.
The Early Intervention in Psychosis service works with young people who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis. The service offers help to people aged 14-65 years who are experiencing first symptoms of psychosis, as well as providing help to their families.
The support received from this service can help patients recover from a psychotic episode. It can also help reduce the likelihood of experiencing further psychotic episodes in the future.
This service is available to all service users within inpatient care. The department has a fully equipped gym within the Hadrian Clinic as well as providing various community groups including walking, football, badminton, cycling, circuit training, swimming, health lifestyle and weight management.
The aim of the service is to provide therapeutic exercise to improve mental illness and prevent/treat some of the physical side effects associated with antipsychotic medication.
