Toby Henderson Trust

The Toby Henderson Trust (TTHT) is an independently funded charity supporting autistic children, their families and carers.  After 15 years at Whitehouse Farm the trust has recently moved to Toby House, Earth Balance, Bedlington, Northumberland.

We are the one and only charity in the North East focused on life changing early intervention with autistic children (aged 2 to 7). Our service users tell us early intervention can transform the life of a child…

Our son couldn’t speak. 2 years later and hours and hours of therapy, he could ask for food, name colours, numbers and all his alphabet

And transform the life of parents, cares and families…

They helped my child communicate with me for the first time. They helped give my child a voice. This was a massive positive in a very dark time. We felt there was light at the end of a very dark tunnel!

There is a significant need for our services. Just in Northumberland alone there are over 500 young people with autism. But there is no NHS specialist post-diagnosis support for autistic children at the critical age for successful intervention, 2 to 7 years.

Early intervention is life changing because it can dramatically improve communication, relieve frustration and often lead to a significant degree of independent living. Greater independence can generate huge financial savings for parents and local authorities.

We are independently funded. That means that we rely on the goodwill and support of everyone who donates the time, money and materials that allow us to continue changing the lives of the families affected by autism.

We have an autism myth busting page where information has been pulled together on common misconceptions or widely held but false beliefs about autism and autistic people.
