Universal Kids Childcare

The preschool is situated within the Blakelaw and Cowgate Families Matter Community Hub located on Lindfield Avenue nest door to Thomas Walling Primary School. Children have access to a wide range of developmentally appropriate good quality toys and equipment. We have At Home Bags that allow parents/carers to help their children continue their learning in their home environment. Staff are all qualified in Early Years with some staff having qualifications of Level 4 and above.

The preschool offers a free flow environment that allows children to access both the indoor and outdoor environment all day and in all weathers. Children enjoy having a continuous provision where they can independently access the resources themselves and make choices. They enjoy fun, stimulating key group work where staff have observed and recorded children's interests and plan around extending these interests and knowledge. 

Children are able to access a meal at lunch time for £2.25. This consists of a dinner and pudding, cooked in our kitchen. This is a home cooked meal using mainly fresh produce. All children receive toast, milk or water as their morning snack. Afternoon snack consists of fresh fruit, milk or water.

We aim to create a welcoming, happy, caring learning environment for all our children. OFSTED commented that 'parents comment that their children run into this outstanding nursery very enthusiastically, excited to start their day'.

Our latest OFSTED inspection on the 15/06/2023 rated us as OUTSTANDING because...

• Staff have a detailed knowledge of how children learn and develop
• The nursery provides EXCELLENT support for children with special needs and/or disabilities (SEND)
• Children's behaviour is exceptional
• Staff are mindful of children's experiences and backgrounds
• Parents are overwhelmingly positive about their children's experiences in nursery
• Managers continuously observe staffs practice to extend knowledge and quality of education further
• Children have opportunities to constantly explore and investigate
• Staff form very effective partnerships with other professionals
• Staff offer many activities to help them learn about festivals

• Staff put children at the centre of everything they do.
• Managers make sure staff recognise how to identify children who maybe at risk of harm.
• Staff understand the action they take if they have a concern abut a child in their care
