Community Team Learning Disabilities

The Newcastle Community Team for Learning Disabilities is based at Benton House in Newcastle.

The Adult team provides specialist assessment and treatment to people aged 18 years and over with a learning disability and additional health needs, where the person’s needs are complex and require an integrated approach to care and treatment that cannot be met through mainstream services.

The Paediatric Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy services support children and young people aged 3 to 19 with a Learning Disability, who attend specific specialist educational provisions in Newcastle.

The teams are staffed by a range of specialist learning disability health professionals Psychiatry, Psychology, Nursing, Speech Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Art Therapy, Health Care Support Workers and Admin, all with training and experience of working with people with a learning disability, their families and carers. The community team offers a range of services including specialist interventions in Positive Behavioural Support (PBS), mental health and physical health.

How can I get referred?

We have an open referral system. This means anybody can refer for themselves or somebody else. The person being referred must agree to the referral being made where able to consent or made in the persons best interest.

• in person
