Lawnmowers Theatre Company

The Lawnmowers is a theatre-arts company in Gateshead run by and for people with learning difficulties. Founded in 1986, it became an independent company in 2000 to promote community cohesion. The Lawnmowers has produced 14 full shows, hundreds of performances, workshops, films, TV appearances, and accessible information.

As an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, The Lawnmowers sets an example of high artistic quality and civic leadership. Over the past 20 years, it has expanded to offer projects in theatre, singing, DJ and technical training, dance, music, and percussion for people with learning difficulties, including youth groups.

Members perform regionally, nationally, and occasionally internationally, aiming to boost confidence, self-esteem, and wellbeing. Since 2000, The Lawnmowers has reached over 147,000 people and collaborated with hundreds of organizations.
