We are a registered charity set up in 1990 in Newcastle upon Tyne, at a time when the North East had the worst levels of child health in the country (Government report Health of the Nation 1990).
Welcome to Healthier Together – a great place to find accurate and trusted NHS healthcare advice in the North East and North Cumbria.
All the information on the Healthier Together site has been checked by clinicians, to ensure we offer the best advice for parents, carers, young people and health professionals.
You can find everything from pregnancy tips and advice on poorly babies to 'should my child go to school today?' or emotional wellbeing for young people, and we're regularly adding new topics.
We provide a safe and stimulating environment for children's learning and development. The setting implements the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and ensures all children have equal access and opportunity to actively learn and develop. Outdoor access is available all year round to extend experiences. We focus on the indivdual childs strengths and support and encourage further learning opportunities building on confidence and skills.
Children come to us for 1 hour 15 minute sessions twice a week, during which time they participate in interactive maths and literacy courses that are tailored to their needs and mapped to the National Curriculum. The centre acts as a positive, fun learning environment and concentrates on improving the child’s confidence and self esteem so that they can reach their full potential. Following this they can play with other children in ‘Surf Club’ with board games, interactive activities, arts and crafts, quizzes and challenges.
Heaton Community Centre is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation 1161406. We offer full day care places, a Nursery, an Out of School Club with Holiday Play Scheme, Onsite and Offsite Crèche Services.
We follow Early Years Foundation Stage led by children’s interests and development. We are part of Sure Start East and link families into Sure Start services. We consult with parents and complete online learning journals to track progress. Healthy snacks are included in both our childcare services and our stay and play sessions.
