The aim of our 0 to 19 health visiting and school health service is to make sure that children, young people and families can access a health visitor or school nurse. We can provide support with healthy growth and development, and support children with any health needs.
Starting school is a significant and exciting milestone for children and their parents and carers. It is important that any health, growth or developmental concerns are highlighted now and support can be offered from the 0-19 service in Newcastle.

The Little Orange Book helps parents of under-fives with practical information about common childhood conditions. Distributed to all new mums in Newcastle and Gateshead through health visitors, this little gem helps parents and carers to recognise and respond to a range of common diseases, illnesses and conditions as well as pointing you to the most appropriate service if you need further support.

All the information on the Healthier Together site has been checked by clinicians, to ensure we offer the best advice for parents, carers, young people and health professionals.

Newcastle Continence Service provides a home delivery service and a specialist nurse service for people with continence issues. Contact the nursing line for diagnosis and assessment and then the continence service for help and support and delivery arrangements.

Resources tailored to the needs of families and children
On this site, you will find all the information you and your child need to fully understand asthma, know how to recognise important symptoms and know how their treatment should be so you can get the best possible control of their asthma.
There is also advice for how to look after your child’s asthma in school and your rights if your child has asthma.

The Little Journey app has been designed by healthcare professionals, children and their parents for the sole purpose of improving how we provide medical information to families about hospital. It was created with the aim of reducing any anxiety you or your child may have, by familiarising you with what may happen and the team looking after you. Information is delivered to children and their parents based on the findings of research studies performed in the UK and abroad.

Moving On Asthma has been developed by the Respiratory Research Team at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.
As a team, we are passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with asthma and this resource is designed to both support clinicians in adolescent health and equip young people with self-management skills as they prepare for the move to adult care.

Pathways 4 All is a parent-led charity, providing leisure services for children and young people with disabilities/ additional needs (0-25 years old). Our primary service is a specialist play and activity provision, the Tim Lamb Centre (in the grounds of the Rising Sun County Park, Benton). Our centre is open to families from across the North East region.

The Alan Shearer Activity Centre is the only one of its kind in the North East offering free recreational, sensory and social facilities for disabled children and adults, their families, schools and groups.
To use our free facilities, you first need to become a member of the centre - which is also free - and you can join by downloading an application form from our websidewebsite: www.alanshearercentre.org.uk or by ringing the centre.

A travelling multi-sensory resource for children with disabilities, their families and friends. Activities include music, storytelling and creative play. Sensory Spaces appears at festivals and family events in the region.
Sensory Spaces was set up to address the needs of all children at local events and to encourage families to attend. The aim is to provide a safe, relaxing space where children can listen to music and stories, explore their creativity, dress up, play and have fun.

Rainbow borrowers is a toy loan service which runs alongside a play session for children under 5 yrs. These sessions are dedicated for children with additional needs and their families.
We are run by Newcastle Action for Parent and Toddler Groups Initiative (NAPI) who support and give advice to toddler groups across the city. If you would like to contact us for any reason please ring 0191 2656158.
