Young Peoples Service: Homeless Prevention (YHN)

This is YHN's Young People's Service: Homelessness Prevention and Floating Support Team.

The Floating Support team provides structured support to young people aged 16 to 25 years to enable them to successfully manage a tenancy.  We work in partnership with agencies across the city including health, social care and education. Everyone has a support plan that is regularly monitored and reviewed to ensure any change in needs are identified and met.

We encourage and support young people to build life skills to be able to live independently, and to access training, education or employment, with a view to progressing to self-sufficiency. These young people can be single, in a couple, lone parents or a young family.  As long as one applicant is under 25 years old then we can support couples where the partner may be over 25.

The Homeless Prevention Team provides a responsive service to 16-17 year olds presenting at the Homeless Advice Centre (HAC) as homeless and assesses all applications for 16 and 17 year olds applying to Tyne and Wear Homes who wish to live in Newcastle. 

This involves:

• assessing their need for assistance with housing
• offering support and intervention with the family to maintain the young person in their home
• referring to appropriate accommodation or tenancy and Floating Support.
