The Children and Families Act 2014 requires each local authority in England to appoint at least one person for the purpose of discharging the local authority’s duty to promote the educational achievement of its Looked After Children (LAC) and Young People (LAYP). The Virtual School head teacher (VSH) leads on this and the Virtual School is the support service for undertaking this role in supporting the education of all our looked after children and looked after young people.

We are Liberdade. Our organisation started in 2003 as an apprenticeship scheme with the aim of enabling a group of people with learning disabilities to set up and run their own physical theatre company.

Choices College - a work experience pathway for students with learning difficulties/disabilities or ASD
Choices College is a supported internship programme for people with learning disabilities, difficulties or autism (LDDA). NHS Health Education England, support NHS Trusts to deliver the programme nationally. The focus is ‘work readiness’ and matching skills to employment. We have 16 NHS hosts across the country.
TCES - The Complete Education Solution - is a social enterprise providing Therapeutic Education to neurodiverse pupils nationally via TCES National Online School, supporting students who are often marginalised and fall through the education net (and also at our five schools and services in and around London).
Specialist support into employment
Disability confident, Veteran Aware, Carer Aware and fully funded.
Participants will automatically receive a 15-month support plan, including 6 months support once they enter employment and our rapid response support should they fall out of work within 15 months of signing up with us.
Our eligibility criteria are as follows:
EarlyBird Plus is for parents whose child is between the ages of four and nine who has received a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder.
At any given time up to 40% of adults and 50% of children (this rises to 80% with a SEND diagnosis) have difficulties with their sleep.
Yet in a recent survey, almost 60% of adults felt there was a lack of support for sleep issues.
Sleep problems can leave people feeling isolated and lonely.
Our free helpline is run by trained sleep advisors, many of whom are specialists in working with SEND. We can talk to young people directly, or parents (we can also talk to adults, including older people, about their sleep issues).
NTaR covers all of drug and alcohol services within Newcastle and is an ageless service.

The Newcastle Community Team for Learning Disabilities is based at Benton House in Newcastle.
The Adult team provides specialist assessment and treatment to people aged 18 years and over with a learning disability and additional health needs, where the person’s needs are complex and require an integrated approach to care and treatment that cannot be met through mainstream services.
The Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorders Service (CNDS) is a specialist second opinion Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) service for children and young people. We provide diagnostic assessments where there is uncertainty around diagnosis. In addition we also provide consultation and management advice to local services concerning children and young people who already have an existing ASD diagnosis.
Outreach clinic to provide people with a learning disability who have offended or show offending type behaviour(s), and those involved in caring for them the opportunity to seek advice and support on managing day to day forensic issues.

How to get referred:
Referrals must be made through local community nursing teams for each locality.
Lennox is a seven bed unit providing comprehensive assessment and treatment for young people aged 12-18 with complex mild to moderate learning disability and a requirement of a high level of supervision in a medium secure environment.
Referrals are accepted from specialist mental health teams regionally, nationally and internationally. Informal enquiries are welcomed and advice can be given by telephone prior to referrals.
The team will work with children/young people between the ages of 4-18 with a learning disability and or Autism Spectrum Disorder where their behaviour that challenges occurs as a result of the young person having limited abilities to communicate distress, and get their needs met in other more adaptive ways.
How to refer:
All referrals must come from a Community CYPS team; it is essential that a care co-ordinator is identified. Consultation clinics are held monthly in each locality where potential referrals can be taken to be discussed.
The Secure Outreach Transition Team (SOTT), provides assessment, intervention, treatment, management and supervision for service users with a learning disability and/or autism spectrum disorder who are:
• Currently in secure care
• In the community following discharge from a period of secure care
• In the community having been referred due to offences or offending behaviour that represents a risk to the general public and who potentially may require admission to secure care.
Our children’s acute physiotherapy team provide a comprehensive range of services for babies, children and young people with musculoskeletal, neurological or cardio-respiratory conditions.
The services we deliver range from treatments for common disorders, to more specialist care for complex problems, such as hydrotherapy, non-invasive ventilation and Ponsetti casting for congenital foot deformities.
Our children’s community therapy services team provide highly specialised physiotherapy and occupational therapy to children who have long-term disabilities and complex health needs.
We work to support the child and their family to reach their greatest physical potential. This includes giving support to schools, respite agencies, and other local community services that children and their families may use.
