Atkinson Road is a popular, thriving and vibrant school. We are situated in the heart of the west end of Newcastle and have been serving our community for over a century. Welbeck Academy opened on 1 September 2012, in the former Welbeck Primary School, to serve the population of Walker and Byker in the east end of Newcastle upon Tyne and provides a first-class education for children aged 2 to 11 years. Discovering your sexual identity is an exciting and important part of growing up but it is also essential to stay safe and healthy. So our confidential and impartial sexual health service is here to help you (as long as you are aged 13 to 25 years old) with any questions, problems or support you need.

This service is available at our usual Monday and Thursday drop ins as well as a specific sexual health drop in on Fridays from 3pm to 6.30pm at our Young People's Service based on the West Road in Newcastle. Come and see us without having to book an appointment and in confidence.
Independent social group as an alternative to the commercial gay scene. Open to gay/bisexual men aged 18 and over. Providing a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Meet Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm

To celebrate the new location of the sexual health drop-in at Byker, they are holding a Launch Party at Byker Sands Family Centre on Monday 4th March, 2.30 pm – 5.30pm.
This is a FREE service for children aged 5 and under going through the diagnostic process or with a diagnosis of autism.
Trained autism practitioners will run sessions that aim to:
The Incredible Years® evidence based parenting programs focus on strengthening parenting competencies and fostering parent involvement in children’s school experiences, to promote children’s academic, social and emotional skills and reduce conduct problems. The parenting programs are grouped according to age: babies (0-12 months), toddlers (1-3 years) and preschoolers (3-6 years)
We will be running a new Strengthening Families Group starting end of September on Thursday evenings
First session will be 28th September 2023 at 5pm - 7pm at Byker Sands Family Hub.
This programme is for families with children aged 8-16.

The Mums group currently meet every Thursday afternoon and has been running for 4 years now.
It is a relaxed space where young women can meet with or without their children. They can have a coffee and chat, share information and advice, support each other when life seems tough, which can help to reduce feelings of isolation. Importantly the group always manage to have a laugh together.
