Skills for People is a user-led, voluntary organisation based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Since 1983 we have been working to make sure that disabled people and their families can be in control of their own lives; strong, confident and involved in the communities of their choice. Skills for People and North East Special Needs Network merged in 2017 to make one organisation.
Our Family Advice and Support team (FAS) work with parents and carers of disabled children and young people up to the age of 25 years to provide co-ordinated support.
Skills for People helps disabled children and adults and their families to be in control and to have better lives. We also work with children with special educational needs.
We offer help with planning, meeting other disabled people and their families, advocacy, advocacy groups, social activities, self help meetings and individual development. We work with people who have an individual budget and those who do not.
A group of mothers with learning disabilities come together to share experiences and learn from each other on the first Wednesday of the month from 11am until 2pm
We meet twice a month for friendship, support, advice and speaking up. Join us to share your views and ideas, to have lunch, fun and to try new things.

We are parents of children with disability. We help families with a disabled child to find and create mutual support. We do this through social media and by meeting up. We help families find all the information that they need in order to have the best possible family life as full members of their communities.
We believe that parent to parent support is really important. We are a wide network. We want to support all parents of disabled children in Newcastle including those who have an individual or personal budget.
Here at The Prince’s Trust, we offer various programmes aiming to get young people between the ages of 11 and 30 into education, training or employment. We do this by delivering programmes based around building confidence, employability and wellbeing skills. We offer work experience programmes as well as employment opportunities. We also have free funding and build your own business programmes. Wherever you’re at in your journey to getting into education or employment, we’re here to listen and we’re here to help!

The National Breastfeeding Helpline offers friendly, non-judgemental, independent, evidence based breastfeeding support and information to anyone in the UK who needs it. The helpline is provided by the Breastfeeding Network and the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers.

They provide a unique personal alarm for the elderly that with the press of a button can get you emergency help anywhere you go.
Unlike traditional Lifeline Alarms or Telecare which only works inside your home, the Personal Alarm Watch makes emergency calls whether you are at home, in the garden or down at the shops. It has GPS for emergencies and can even track your steps and heart rate.

Recognised for our innovation and excellence, everything we do stems from an unswerving belief in providing bespoke person-centered support. It’s at the heart of who we are to recognise the uniqueness of every human being, and to understand that as a spectrum condition no two people with autism will have the same needs or wants.
For refugees living in the West End of Newcastle Practical help, advice and advocacy are provided through daily drop-in advice sessions, run by WERS’ multi-lingual support worker and trained volunteers.
WERS also offers home visits for those who find it difficult to visit WERS’ offices, a clothing store, where good quality second-hand clothing and household items are offered free of charge and a hardship fund, providing emergency payments to clients in extreme need. Emotional support is offered through the accredited befriending scheme
Family Fund supports families living across the UK who are who are raising a disabled or seriously ill child or young person up to the age of 17. Our support is focused on those on low incomes with a child/children who have a high level of additional support needs.
At Family Fund, we believe that all families raising disabled or seriously ill children and young people should have the same choices, quality of life, opportunities and aspirations as other families.
Autism North East is a Social Enterprise, non-profit-making organisation providing assessment, diagnosis and intervention for children, young people and adults where this is a concern related to an Autism Spectrum Condition.
Free tandem or tag-along bike to anyone with a disability or additional need.
What we do:
We lend, at no cost (i.e. for free), tandems and tag-alongs to (and only to) people with disabilities or additional needs, who are unable to ride a bike safely on their own, so that they can enjoy the wonders of cycling.
What you need to do:
The Nystagmus Network is a registered charity in England and Wales supporting people living with nystagmus. Nystagmus is a complex eye condition, characterised by involuntary movements of the eye. The eyes appear to wobble or flicker from side to side, up and down or round and round. Nystagmus causes impaired vision, affecting the ability to focus, speed and depth perception and facial recognition. At least 1 in 1,000 people are born with nystagmus and many more acquire the condition later in life.
Turn2us is a national charity that helps people gain access to welfare benefits, charitable grants and other financial help. www.turn2us.org.uk has a free and easy to use Turn2us Benefits Calculator and a grants search database containing details of over 3,000 charitable funds.

Money Matters is the specialist debt advice team within the Newcastle City Council's Active Inclusion Service. They offer debt and budgeting advice to people who live in Newcastle.

The Social, Emotional and Mental Health Additionally Resourced Provision (SEMH ARP) at Hawthorn Primary School is a specialised provision for children who struggle with their behaviour in a mainstream setting and need the benefit of additional support to access mainstream education in school.

ASLI is the Association of Sign Language Interpreters in the United Kingdom. Established in 1987,
Newcastle Disability Forum (NDF) works as a voice for disabled people in Newcastle and is represented on various health groups.
NDF is one of the principal disability organisations in Newcastle, recognised by local and health authorities for advice and guidance on physical and sensory impairment and learning disability issues.
NDF has over 130 disabled members and hold regular monthly meetings. Guests are invited to these meetings to give out information and to answer questions from disabled people.
