For refugees living in the West End of Newcastle Practical help, advice and advocacy are provided through daily drop-in advice sessions, run by WERS’ multi-lingual support worker and trained volunteers.

WERS also offers home visits for those who find it difficult to visit WERS’ offices, a clothing store, where good quality second-hand clothing and household items are offered free of charge and a hardship fund, providing emergency payments to clients in extreme need. Emotional support is offered through the accredited befriending scheme

Family Fund supports families living across the UK who are who are raising a disabled or seriously ill child or young person up to the age of 17. Our support is focused on those on low incomes with a child/children who have a high level of additional support needs.

At Family Fund, we believe that all families raising disabled or seriously ill children and young people should have the same choices, quality of life, opportunities and aspirations as other families.

Autism North East is a Social Enterprise, non-profit-making organisation providing assessment, diagnosis and intervention for children, young people and adults where this is a concern related to an Autism Spectrum Condition. 

Free tandem or tag-along bike to anyone with a disability or additional need.

What we do:

We lend, at no cost (i.e. for free), tandems and tag-alongs to (and only to) people with disabilities or additional needs, who are unable to ride a bike safely on their own, so that they can enjoy the wonders of cycling.



What you need to do:

The Nystagmus Network is a registered charity in England and Wales supporting people living with nystagmus. Nystagmus is a complex eye condition, characterised by involuntary movements of the eye. The eyes appear to wobble or flicker from side to side, up and down or round and round. Nystagmus causes impaired vision, affecting the ability to focus, speed and depth perception and facial recognition. At least 1 in 1,000 people are born with nystagmus and many more acquire the condition later in life.

Turn2us is a national charity that helps people gain access to welfare benefits, charitable grants and other financial help. www.turn2us.org.uk  has a free and easy to use Turn2us Benefits Calculator and a grants search database containing details of over 3,000 charitable funds.

Money Matters is the specialist debt advice team within the Newcastle City Council's Active Inclusion Service. They offer debt and budgeting advice to people who live in Newcastle.

Newcastle Disability Forum (NDF) works as a voice for disabled people in Newcastle and is represented on various health groups.

NDF is one of the principal disability organisations in Newcastle, recognised by local and health authorities for advice and guidance on physical and sensory impairment and learning disability issues.

NDF has over 130 disabled members and hold regular monthly meetings. Guests are invited to these meetings to give out information and to answer questions from disabled people.

Today, 10 children and young people in the UK will hear the shocking news that they have cancer.

Treatment normally starts immediately, is often given many miles from home and can last for up to three years. Being diagnosed with cancer is a frightening experience and the emotional, practical and financial implications of treatment are intensely challenging for the whole family.

We aim to raise awareness and make sure D/deaf, Deafblind and Hard of Hearing people have access to information and services in the same way as hearing people.  We provide information and signposting for deaf-related services. 

Deaflink has developed as an organisation with the principles of inclusion and empowerment, trying to bring people and agencies in partnership to understand better the needs and issues of D/deaf, Deafblind and Hard of Hearing people.

Sibs is a UK charity for siblings who may be finding it hard to cope with a brother or sister who is disabled, has special educational needs or a serious long term condition.

It is the only UK charity representing the needs of over half a million young siblings and over one and a half million adult siblings.

Sibs can give information and advice both over the phone and online. Sibs also runs YoungSibs, an online only support service for siblings in the UK aged 7 to 17.

Retina UK is the national charity for families living with inherited retinal dystrophies. We fund research and provide information and support to those affected by inherited sight loss and the professionals who support them.

We support anyone with the following visual impairments: Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), Rod Cone dystrophy, Cone Rod dystrophy, Choroideremia, Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA), Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS), Usher syndrome, Stargardt disease.

PANS (paediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric syndrome) and PANDAS (paediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric syndrome associated with strep) are devastating neuropsychiatric conditions that are currently poorly recognised, diagnosed and supported both medically and in schools.
