Northbourne Youth Initiative was set up in 2000. We are based in an end terrace house on the estate we have always had a presence in the local community and are embedded in the local area. We are a local charity working with those who need us most. Many are from the estate, but we are targeting a wider remit now, as we grow and are able to offer more services for young people.
We run youth clubs for young people aged between 5-18 where young people can take part in activities such as cooking, making music in our music studio, arts and crafts and playing pool and PS4. These are on evenings in our base in Pottery Bank.
We also run alternative education programmes for young people who are struggling in high school. Our programmes vary depending on each young persons needs but each programme will take place outside of school in small groups of no more than 8 young people per group.

We have been working with the LTA to offer inclusive opportunities for tennis within the club. Our coaches have been on some additional training, and we are pleased to offer a course of SEN tennis sessions for ages 8 - 18.
When it comes to tennis, a learning disability includes conditions such as Down’s Syndrome, Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
We understand that each person’s learning disability has different symptoms and characteristics, so our expert coaches will tailor each session to suit their client’s needs.
